This is associated with Michael Miller fabrics. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I think it is a contest for designing a new line of fabrics for them.

Kind of interesting to look at!

Yeah... well... when I got a tour of the Cranston mill (before they stopped printing here in the US) they had the most fascinating really big printer. It printed on a roll of plain fabric! And it took the biggest ink cartridges. I can only imagine what they must cost.

My guess - and it is only a guess - is that a printer like that is what's being used to custom-print yardage of these yet-to-be-released fabrics.

Actually, I would love to know what that printer cost, too!

I've actually joined them, because the pricing is relative. It will cost me $14-$17 a metre for my own designed fabric if I purchase from Spoonflower whilst it costs between $21 - $26 to buy the average priced material in our quilt shops. I've done the math and think it is a better deal.

You can print your own fabric from a photo at this site.

Spoonflower is a site where you can design your own fabric and have it printed. You can also buy fabrics that others have designed but the fabrics are expensive. They also have design contests every month with different criteria each time. anyone can go to spoonflower and vote on their favorite fabrics for each contest. I have designed a set of fabrics and am anxiously waiting to receive them to approve the colors then they will be for sale on the site.
