Interesting technique for basting without pins

To me it seems a method more trouble then it's worth but I thought I'd share in case others might like to see the way it's done.

That's the way I do mine. The only difference is I use water soluble thread so I don't have to worry about pulling it.

Both my DD and I use that method. But we use basting safety pins instead of thread. So much easier than getting down on our hands and knees. We have done baby quilts up to king size.

I just found this way to baste. I am seriously thinking about giving it a try because I have this monster to baste.

I've shown so many quilters here in the U.K. how to it this Sharon Schamber way and they are all converted! Not perhaps ideal for really large quilts but for others it's great. Banishes any wrinkles in top or bottom and you can do it sitting down - a great bonus for us oldies.

I love this method too. I don't mind the stitching, it's BIG stitches and goes really fast. Easy on the back too! I also LOVE the idea about using the water-soluable thread, what a GREAT idea!!

Wow. Who knew. Thank you for sharing. Now I have to try that.

I was taught Sharon's method at a quilt demo a my quilting group... My husband made me two super smooth boards to use. I use this method for wall quilts and lap quilts... some time I pin if they are small. I enjoyed the refresher on her method.

Some long arm quilters will baste everything together for a fee, of course! LOL But better than hands and knees getting sore...this method looks way smart. I'll try it on a small.

Tese Videos are also on YouTube. Just do a search for her name.

I've been using this method for quite a while and get fantastic results and it is so easy. For bigger quilts I do them a section at a time and then put it all together at the end and just quilt over the joins.

I was just telling my DD today how hard it was pin basting my last large quilt on the floor that I may never make a large one again, maybe this will have me eat my words...

This looks similar to what I do but without the boards. I think it would be more accurate than just working with the top on the sewing board. Thanks for sharing it.
