Mirror image 9-patch blocks

I love, love, love the lowly little 9-oatch & found the neatest tutorial for making mirror image 9's! I hope you like it as much as I do!!!

This is such a neat technique. I had done um-teen of these using scrappy 6 inch squares. It was just part of my mindless sewing when I wanted to relax. We divided the sets in half by randomly selecting the + and - blocks. By combining these with plain ecru squares we made a pretty quilt for charity. Sorry, no pix :-(

I like making 9 patches, but I start with a large 4 patch. I usually use 6" squares. You end up with a 9patch with a large center, but they go together quickly and are so cute in a baby quilt.

Thanks, both ladies, for these techniques - I have to teach new blocks at our guild meeting and these "Old done new" ideas are going to be great!

Hello. I am new to quilting and very interested in trying this disappearing 4 patch, but when I search for directions on where to make the 2 cuts on the fabric, I can only find a very different version of the disappearing 4 patch that requires 4 cuts, and results in a very different looking block. Any further info on how to make this particular block would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

All these links make the same disappearing 4-patch. The one at the beginning of this thread does it differently. I looks like it cuts the squares in half: if you start with four 5 in. squares to make the original 4-patch, cut it 2.5 inches from one edge. (or 2.25 from the middle seam.) That way the piece is cut in half, but the seam allowance is figured in there to find the half. Then you sew that piece to to the other side and and cut again. Sew that piece on where it belongs and you have your very cute block.

Looks like you were working with very many very small pieces, but your weren't.
