Bonnie Hunter has just posted the "yardage requirements"(she just uses up scraps) for a new mystery quilt. I have not done one of hers yet, but am thinking I might try this one. Anyone else up for this challenge?

I'm afraid to look. Then I will have two in progress. Her Mystery quilts are awesome!

I'm going to peek! Not that I need another project either...

danger, danger...you will be hooked ;-) |
I would love to, but it calls for more colors than I have and I don't have money to buy any.

I follow her blog, but I think there is a yahoo group for her as well.

I am so intrigued by Bonnie Hunter's philosophy of stash quilting. Someone on live chat the other night pointed her site out to me as I have a tremendous stash and inherited alot of stash and scraps from my mother last year.
I went thru her site and found her current blog about the new mystery quilt as well as three other mystery quilts she's done. The one called 'Double Double' (I think that's right) just took my breath away when I saw the finished quilt. My question and concern is...I'm not an experienced quilter so would it be best to copy the old mystery quilt steps and the new ones also for me to work on as I'm able? Or should I step in with both feet and follow along on this journey? The timing (the holidays) and my getting overwhelmed concerns me. Sorry this is so long...just trying not to get in over my head. |
Ooh, I want to do it. But when does it start? I have two more quilts to make before Christmas. Plus a bunch of other stuff. I have a huge stash I would love to use some of it up.
|
I have just come from her site (and an amAzing site it is!), and felt excited reading about her mystery quilt... except that it falls at a time of year that is my Very busiest - holidays, family, travel, and my own christmas projects. However, there's no reason I couldn't start this in January, now is there. :-D
|
Her blog says the directions will be up until July, so you can print them out and finish it at a more convenient time(after the holidays?) It does seem like a difficult time of year to start a big busy project but I really want to try. And if I get behind, can catch up in January. The directions are supposed to start Nov 19 and the next step about every week for 5-6 weeks.
I love her way of using men's shirts for scrappy quilts. I have collected quite a few from thrift stores, and plan to use them for much of this mystery. May change the colorway a bit to accomodate what I have. I am very excited about this one. |
Thanks!
|
Thanks for the heads up! I like Bonnie's patterns, and hope to save the instructions as they become available. Then, when I get a couple other projects finished, I can start this.
|
hmm 'might be interesting
|
Sadiemae: I have never done a mystery quilt, I am going to try, I have alot of fabric, I can share with you. this first mystery quilt. Teresa

Ok I've never done a mystery online so do I sign up so I don't miss the clues or what? If not how do I get the clues? And is her stuff easy or hard? I've quilted quite a bit but still not good with hard stuff. Sorry for all the questions but it sounds like fun and I don't want to miss a step. Hope I can get my hands on some fabric. I don't have a big stash or money so I'll have to get very creative to do this.

The website address: http://www.quiltville.com/ |
send an email to: quiltvillechatyahoogroups.com and get on the email list. Also, printo out the rules/fabric requirements. I don't have the angle ruler, but she will be giving directions using a regular ruler.
|
I looked and saved it...hopefully I can get some other projects (one huge one and a few little ones) done first!
|
Bonnie Hunter will be the guest speaker at our guild this month. I am taking her class on "Scrappy Sisters" and the next day she is doing "Crumbs, crumbs" (I believe that is the title.) Everyone is really excited about her coming. My friend and I will be making lap quilts to send to Walter Reed Hospital.
|
Looks interesting, when does she start giving the clues? Do the clues tell you what you are suppose to be sewing? Never have done one of these before.

I'm really tempted, especially since it's right around the holidays and I'm off work. No family home for Christmas, so it's quilt, quilt, quilt for two weeks.
I'll start and see if I can keep up, if not I'll just save instructions. I LOVE mystery quilts and this one especially since it is scrappy and I have old fabrics too! |

Vicki, look for me. My name is Barbara Melfa. See you soon.
|
I'd love to see what her other mystery quilts look like. I've never done a mystery before and really want to... but I'm not a country styled person so I get on guard when the word mystery pops out.
|
What I have seen of her quilts leads me to think she uses traditional patterns. You choose the fabrics. That can make all the difference, as to whether your quilt looks 'country' or 'contemporary'.

Quilting Cat, I joined the newsletter some time ago, and I did not know all the steps in setting up my profile, so I have left it along. I am not in hiding just busy reading the newsletters and enjoying every minute of it. I am a golfer when the weather allows it. I have been a member of the Flying Geese Quilt Guild for three years and am attempting to become a quilter.
|
I would love to do the mystery quilt How do I get started
|
Tonight is the night to hear Bonnie Hunter at a local quilt guilt, very excited! And the mystery starts this FRIDAY!! Are you ready? Do you have your scraps sorted? I am sure I will get the motivation I need tonight to get them all together and ready.

Sorry this is so long...just trying not to get in over my head. much better to work on a project with others at the time it is ongoing. Jumping in and making myself do a mystery quilt is exactly how I got off the dime and started my quilting journey. I HIGHLY recommend it. I am going to do this because y'all are such a fun group and Miss Bonnie is an excellent instructor. One thing to consider - - Miss Bonnie does not know "little" all of her quilts are BIGGGG! Be prepared for that ... Even if you don't find colors to match hers, exactly, in your stash, use what you have! (and, it is pretty amazing what colors turn out "green" when you get a bunch of green color around it) ... the point is "DO IT!" you may find you want to make another one later ... Miss Bonnie believes in quilts that are to be used, and no matter how you put the fabric together, your quilt will be used and appreciated. <wave> |

Okay!
Just in case life in my world goes differently than what I think it will go in the next week or so? I am going to depend on this thread to notify me that a new clue has been posted. I went through some of the other sites where I can connect with Miss Bonnie, and I am just not up for that much involvement with that big a world (if you know what I mean), so I am depending on you to post to this thread! <wave> |
