Small quilts -- binding idea

I think I should have posted this in Links, but here is is: On the Quilting Daily site, I just saw a kind of cool idea for 'binding' a small quilt -- it uses perle cotton and two rounds of zig zag stitching. I don't remember seeing it before.

Here's the link: Easy Binding for Small Quilts

I read the post and it sounds like a terrific way to get around corners and not have problems develop. Never thought of using perle cotton that way and it looks great. Can't wait to try it out.

Me too. The two quilts I did the binding on myself years ago weren't very pretty and I folded the border around to the back to make it easier instead of adding real binding. I'm going to practice on a few baby quilts and wall hangings before going big.

I have seen this done with larger yarns/fibers as well. It does NOT give you a clean finished edge, so if raw edges bother you , this is not the finish you want!

I agree Jacquie, this would only be for very small items that will receive no stress and never be washed. I don't mind binding at all, but I thought that this was a new way of looking at something -- it sort of stimulates the imagination.

I wonder how well it holds up?
