You didn't read it correctly:

And there are 12 monthly kits.

that way too much...I have a Studio that cuts tumblers...I should do that...but I could never charge people that much...a woman at work asked me to cut a queen size for her...I was thinking 20.00 for the whole thing.

Did the $20 include the fabric?

This is basically a kit - like buying the Flynn precut windmills packages he used (maybe still does) sell.

I'm not commenting on if it's a good deal or not (I never buy kits but I understand the appeal for some people), but a king size quilt is approx 9 yards of fabric UNCUT.

If you had to go out and buy a whole selection of FQ's to get the right mix, that's way over $100 right there (forget borders, binding and backing) to get the 40-50 FQ's for a good mix.

So the question is how much the time is worth to NOT have to cut the pieces out yourself, and how much having perfectly pieces is worth to you, IF you happen to like that fabric. However, my take is that if you DO happen to like that fabric genre, you've already got a nice selection in your stash....that you won't be able to use for this.

Plus the $12 pattern in the magazine isn't included. You'da thunk they could have tossed the mag in with each purchase.

you are right, it is over twelve months, so it is actually quite expensive.

Okay, this quilt has no setting triangles/borders, so the pieces are all the fabric you need to make the quilt, plus the backing/binding and batting.

As far as the fabric, my take on this quilt is you can do it from charm squares and/or layer cakes. However, you would need 700 pieces to do a QS (100x100). That's 19 charm packs and/or 5 layer cakes. At $35 each, 5 layer cakes would be $175. With a price of $20 for 12 mos, the cost is $240. Subtract the fabric and the charge for cutting the pieces for a QS is $65. Not that bad actually. It would take a couple of days for me to cut that many pieces. Don't know how much shipping would be, but I'd prefer to buy the entire thing at one time.

You might as well buy the GO! fabric cutter from Accuquilt (or some place that has them for sale price) and the die cut. I have the tumbler die cut and I loved making my tumbler quilt, I used red, white, and blue and shaped it like a flag.

@BizyStitches - I was thinking the same thing...for those who buy precuts they might as well buy a GO....and the dies...its cheaper

there is probably shipping added to that cost too- so your quilt kit will be around $300 by the time you get all 12 kits. bom's are often quite (spendy) you pay for the convienience of having the fabrics picked out for you
