For those who were interested in the "new" Retro Singer 160 machine...
 

Just as I suspected, it is being unveiled as the Today's Special on HSN on January 26th.

The machine is on the Singer website now, with more photos, but no pricing information yet.

I really like this machine but wonder how much is metal vs plastic...The specs state: "Heavy Duty Metal Frame - The internal rigid support holds all the mechanisms in perfect alignment forskip-free sewing and overall durability". Update: found the answer: inside is all metal, outside is plastic.

Oh and it appears it will be over $500.

Not interested in all in a plastic machine that is trying to reproduce the featherweight. I'd take the "real" featherweight in a heartbeat. But this underwhelming, ugly (IMO) machine doesn't interest me in the least. Especially for the price.

I don't care for it, will have to see what people think of it after using it. I am thinking Singer may need some money in the coffers so is bringing this out as a collectible type machine.

Wow! Who would spend $500 on this when for less they could get a Featherweight?

I would not spend $500 for this limited edition machine. I am a quilter, I sew alot, my featherweight cost half that much, and mostly I never use any other stitch than straight stitch when I am piecing (about 90% of the time). I think Singer has a "lemon", and needs to have quilters on its staff to find out what we really need. (like huge bobbins, huge throat areas, easy maintenance, quiet motor, well lit throat area, and maybe a CD player. (Haha)

Boy am I with you! The whole point in using a vintage machine is its' ability to sew beautiful straight stitches which the present day models cannot do because they are made to be able to sew zig zag stitches and other fancy stitches. Now they make a 'reproduction' with all these abilities? The reproduction will not be able to produce the beautifiul stitches any more that the present models can, and it doesn't even look like a vintage. You're right, it's ugly and underwhelming. I think it will be the 'Edsel' of the sewing machine world! You remember the 'Edsel' don't you? The ugliest most inefficient car Ford ever built!

I for one am very excited about this machine, I really like the design of it. I already have a white Featherweight, a 1910 Singer Treadle, a 401a, a Genie and a Singer Confidence can't wait to add this to my collection. I will try to be the first to order it, lol.
