Yarn or Fabric 02-20-2011 10:00 AM

I found an awesome thing online the other day.... and I am just now getting to post it here...!
Hancock Fabrics has a quilt pattern called Poppies and it has a wedge ruler template in it! I thought that I'd share it with you all :)
It's a free downloadable pdf and it has the template included that you print out and tape together. I'm *pretty* sure it is the 9 or 10 degree ruler template :)

Nice pattern. I like it because there are not seams to match on the fan.

Thank you.

Beffy_Boo 02-20-2011 06:44 PM

Thanks a million. Been wanting that ruler for a long time. Really like the pattern too. On my way too long to do list. :D

thank you so much for posting,

Now, if you tape that ruler together and bring it to your glass or hardware store, they can cut it out of plexiglass for you. Mine was a fraction of the cost of buying one!!

denilynne 02-21-2011 05:22 AM

I don't see a pattern for poppies

kdoublea 02-21-2011 05:41 AM

Thanks so much for posting that link to Hancocks - they have some great free patterns! A while ago, through this website, I found the Spicy Spiral table runner pattern and then bought the 10 deg. ruler locally, and I have made four of the runners so far and I'm sure will make many more!
I fell in love with that poppy design and can see that quilt made in other floral prints as well - lots more stripsets in my future, can you tell???

Thank you so much.

dreamgirl 02-21-2011 06:00 AM

Thank you so much! I've been wanting to try this, but didn't want to buy the ruler.

nannya54 02-21-2011 06:37 AM

Thanks. Beautiful quilt so it's now in my "to do" pile!

lgilkey 02-21-2011 07:12 AM

When I was organizing my rulers I found Marilyn Doheney's set of 3 9 degree rulers (9, 14, &18 inch) they were sort of expensive and I don't know why I bought them (most probably at a quilt show where I go a bit nuts) , but thanks for this project where I can use them.

gkeen 02-21-2011 07:20 AM

WooHoo!! Luv free stuff!!

dphelps 02-21-2011 08:41 AM

Now I am feeling a little dumb. I look at Hancocks site all the time and buy from time to time but I never realized they had free downloads. Thanks so much. I should have waited to buy the ruler but I think this is the longest one that I do not have. Again,Thanks so much.

Dianne1 02-21-2011 12:28 PM

Thank you. Another on the to do list.

Thanks lots. My daughter saw a picture of this and liked it. Now I can make her one for her birthday (August).

kathome 02-21-2011 05:00 PM

If I measured correctly, (and I think I did) this ruler template is just a hair over 13 degrees. I believe that the spiral calls for either a 9, 10 or is it 11 degree wedge, so be careful using it for that purpose.

kdoublea 02-21-2011 05:13 PM

Thanks Kathome - I had quickly checked the printout with my 10 deg. wedge ruler and noticed they were not the same - just hadn't gotten around to doing the math to figure out the exact degrees! Obviously with a full circle being 360 degrees, this printed template could only be used for a partial circle so it will work just fine for the pattern it comes with.

when you pull up the pdf file, go to the top of the page. click on view, click on zoom, click on zoom to, then put in 90 and it will change the size and then where the little box sayes, 2x2" it should match. hope that helps

Thanks SO much! Cheapest one I found online was 17.00 inc. shipping and it was only 14 inches long. BUT ... my hubby has a large enough piece of plexiglass in the garage for it and he is going to cut it for me!! Woo! Hoo! Can you tell I am excited? Have been wanting to do spiral Christmas tree skirts.

The link I had provided is no longer working.
If you go to www.hancockfabrics.com and click on their free projects tab on the left hand side and then click on by crafts then quilting it will come up. I do not have a direct link to the pattern itself.
