My sister found this on pinterest. I think it sounds lovely. Hope some of you can participate.

I am in the process of making my first Quilt for Kids, the fabric has to be cotton, prewashed, machine quilted, when finished washed again. I am hoping that my quilt turns out well, as I am hoping to be a DELMARVA coordinator. If anyone is interested, please go on to the quilt for kids site, and look for your area and see if you have a coordinator. That way the quilt you make will go to your regional hospital. There are also labels that need to be attached. I am using my "stash" for all the quilts I hope to make.

I also 'just discovered' this group, and will be making quilts for this group. I do like the concept that they don't have to be big, just a nice lap size 'comfort' quilt....I may make a pillowcase to match my quilts...so these dear children get two for one.....will email my local co-ordinator if this is acceptable.....If anyone knows the answer, would appreciate your imput....

Just curious. Are you sure the fabrics have to be prewashed? I don't understand why this would be a requirement. If there is a concern about dyes bleeding, a sample of each fabric can be tested.

    Default Just checked the website

They are not saying prewashed, as much as entire quilt when completed, must be washed. They are pretty specific about what they want in regards to size, kind of fabric, and finishing.....I would rather deal with clear specifications than 'whatever'..... here is their website: http://quiltsforkids.org/patterns/

I have made 4 quilts for this group, two from their kits and two from my stash. A very worthwhile organization IMHO. They do have some pretty specific rules for their quilts, but it is for a good reason (commercial washers in hospitals are tough on quilts and fabrics).

I've made 33 quilts from there fabrics and 33 from my own stash for QFK. The fabric that I have gotten from them have never been washed so I'm sure I didn't have to prewash mine before I made the quilt from my stash. I think it's a great cause but none that I've made stays in my state. But it doesn't matter....sick kids are sick kids where ever they are. I love to be able to give a simple quilt to make a hospital stay for a child better.

I am currently making one for QFK. I have the ideas for another 4 or 5. A friend from work is going to make 4 or 5 as well. Since I have eleventy bazillion yards of fabric in my stash, I decided I would use my fabric instead of using their kits.

QFK is a charity I'm sewing for. I try to finish two extra quilts when I send theirs back. Great way to use up my stash. Last time I crammed four quilts in the box and sent them an email that when they got my box to be careful because I was afraid when they cut the first tape strip the box would explode with quilts! I try to do something for them four times a year. Looking at the calendar guess it's almost time to request another kit!!

I will have to see what I can do with this, as I am in the process of making a Quilt for Kids quilt also to get approved to start a Chapter in my State. Very exciting, and will be alot of work, but lots of rewards in the end.
