Default Quilter's Will

Some fellow quilters and I were driving back from a meeting yesterday. The subject came up of what happens to our stash, etc. when we pass away. So we decided that it is time to remind everyone to make a plan... perhaps this one? http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/...ters-will.html

I made a copy of that a couple years ago, made sure DH knew where it was (taped to the cabinet directly as you walk into my sewing room-he can't miss it should the need arise) and that he swore he would follow my wishes. My fabric is too valuable to end up in a dumpster, I'm too selfish to let relatives take it, sell it and make money from it, too mean to let a certain someone come in and sweet talk DH into letting her have what she wanted for her sewing business, and too proud of what I have accomplished to let it be given away to a thrift store for their profits (don't get me started on my opinions). So I have selected just the right person to know what to give to local churches, what my daughter can sell herself, how much the certain person gets, what can be given to the thrift store, and the rest I pray every day I get the opportunity to use up most of it- as I had originally intended to do.

I have a "person" set up in my will who knows my wishes. But we had to call the ambulance for her the other day. I don't know anyone younger.

When I no longer have need of it, I'm not going to bother fussing over who DOES. Can't take it with me. Its not like its my soul.

My stash is mostly well organized and stored in plastic totes. It will find a home at my guild or senior center. I know it will be well received and used. I am sure the mats, rulers and other tools will be welcome. But, the collection of patterns, books, etc---Who knows about them. I don't, but I doubt that I will be worrying about them.

I have named my quilting daughter first and a friend who belongs to our church sewing group. Both only in their 50's so bound to out live me.

It is all going to my now 19 year old daughter and my hubby. They can have fun with it. Hubby bankrolled most of it so he knows the value. LOL

Quilter's Will was entertaining, and close to the truth. My husband does know the value of it all, but I doubt he would know what to do with it. He knows I value charity quilting, so I hope he finds a good home for my stuff.

I turned 65 this year...not old, but not a spring chicken any more either. Have realized that I will never get all the fabric, quilt patterns, thread, and templates used that I just HAD to have. So, I'm selling it off on FB, what doesn't sell there will to to E-Bay, after that it will go to Goodwill. I am keeping a few patterns, some fabric, and the most often used templates. For some reason I'm breathing easier.
