I love doing redwork, but am always wondering how to quilt it. I have a crib quilt ready to quilt and am wondering how to do it. It is girls going different activities. Would you quilt around the "picture" or go through it. I'm thinking of doing cross hatch, but not going through the redwork. Would that work?

Barb, thanks for those links! I just had the best time and added them to my favorites. One of these days, I really need to organize those bookmarks, as I have so many.

I would stitch around it not through it. I would think quilting over it could harm the redwork. If you do free motion quilting, I would stipple the background of the redwork blocks. If you do straight line quilting, the cross-hatch would work, but I would outline around the redwork pattern and then only cross-hatch in the background.

Thanks, I like both ideas and now have to decide. I've never done a stipple, though, just the meander.

I have a problem doing anything small! Some day, I hope to have time and patience to do a stipple.

Came across a redwork site today which also has a lot of vintage stuff, for those who might be interested. Freebies. patternbee.com 8)Betty
