Tomorrow morning at 9 am Cedar Valley Quilts in West Branch, IA, will officially open for business!! Our website is www.cedarvalleyquilts.com The site is still a work in progress, and I'm updating it daily with new fabrics (have to get the notions on there still!), but it will give you an idea of what items we have at the shop.

I want to thank all of you who gave me terrific suggestions when I posted the "stock the store" thread a while back. They were great suggestions, and I appreciate everyone who took the time to say what they would like to see in a LQS.

We're a small shop, but we will continue to grow, all the while focusing on what our customers want "their store" to be. My husband and I are so excited...this has been a dream for some time now, and we're looking forward to this new adventure.

If you get to eastern Iowa (West Branch is just off I-80 east of Iowa City), stop in and say hi...we've love to meet you :)

    Christine

Nice prices on your fabrics. I do have a question and I am sure that it has probably been asked before...Why do shops sell fabric in 1/2 yards now instead of a full yard?

And second question....Are you going to have your shop do the FabShop Hop? I sure hope so. It would get more people to your site. :)

Good luck on your new shop. I hope it does well. :)

Good question re: yard vs half-yards. I'm not sure why lots of sites sell this way. I personally like to buy fabric by the yard(s) (as my husband will attest to!). But I know there are many people who like to do fat quarter patterns and can't bring themselves to spend all that money on 1 yard of 1 fabric when they can get 4 FQ. I definitely will sell yardage, but I wanted people to know they could get a smaller piece to try....and maybe they'll become the yardage fanatic like me. :)

I've been thinking about the shop hops....I've participated in several myself and had a blast visiting all the shops, and it definitely would increase the website visibility.....it is on my list of things I need to do in the near future. Thanks for asking and reminding me I still need to do this. :)
