Default Tute on binding a quilt

If you've been quilting for awhile I'm sure you have this method down but for me I did find some new hints in here and I love the way she goes really slowly and we can actually see what she'd doing. The first part of this method was on Kaye Wood's channel yesterday but this is the more important video I think.

As binding is my downfall, I'm always interested in new ways to have people explain it to me!

Thanks!

You don't have to use a ruler to measure how long the overlap should be. Your measurement is right there on your binding, no matter how wide the binding is. Just fold a triangle into the beginning of the binding, and the base of that triangle will be the width of the overlap. Cut the tail off at that base and you have the correct length.
Also she doesn't show the seam after it is sewn and pressed open. There should be a square on the back of right side of fabric. Then you trim that seam, refold the binding and sew it on with the seam open.

I do mine this same way. I still get confused about which strip goes where, so I will keep this one for future reference, thanks for posting.

This is definitely my favorite method -- it works every time for me!

Thanks for the share. A good clear tutorial. I just did this last evening and never thought about ironing the binding back once it is on the quilt. It is assuring to know I am doing my binding well. I also love the soothing of hand sewing the final step of my binding. I find it very satisfying.

Thanks for that link Roberta. I bookmarked it and just did on the binding on a bedrunner. Very pleased with the result and the instructions so very clear and easy to follow.

I have tried in the past to get this method done without success. No more bulk in my binding from now on.
