I've used mine for sev. months now & have never poked the pins in so that they scratched my machine. I stuffed mine pretty fat with polyester batting.
I had no trouble putting pcs. of Velcro inside then turning it right side out to finish it.

Great idea, you could also do wider straps and use velcro
