Default 1/4" seams on my Janome 12000 -- HELP!!!

This machine will NOT make a scant 1/4" seam, it makes a dead-on 1/4" seam even when I move the needle all the way to the right. So, if I have a large blocks with lots of pieces, I never end up with a 12-1/2" block. Is anyone else having this problem? And if so, were you able to figure out how to get around the machine's settings? I use the quilting setting and the 1/4" foot, and have also tried in the sewing settings but nothing works. This is a $9,000 machine and they can't give you the option for a scant 1/4" seam? Not good!

WOW, I would be frustrated too. With my Bernina, I am able to set the needle over two spaces and get a scant 1/4".

I have the 11000. The center point for my machine is 3.5 and I move it to 4.1 with the 1.4" foot to get a scant 1/4". I think the center point on the 12000 is 4.5. So I would move it over to 5.1 or so to get the scant 1/4". If you are guiding the fabric through at the same point all the time, I don't understand how the seam would not get smaller as you move the needle over to the right? Good luck. Ann

There is no law that says you need a 1/4" foot. For many years I used the open toed embroidery foot and knew dead on where to guide my fabric.

I was taught to use a ruler under the presser foot place it in the exact 1/4 inch position and place a mark, seam guide or painter's tape to mark it where I needed it to be. Always got the scant quarter I needed. I still do this with some of my machines.

Silly question--how do you move the needle position?

If you are moving the needle the seam width has to change.
It is NOT going to stay dead-on 1/4".

If you are feeling so upset, about this, it would only make sense that you speak to your dealer. I am sure there is something that you are missing.

Dumb Question, but are you sure that the needle is moving. Maybe there is something wrong with your machine.
