My friend Yvonne is celebrating her 100th birthday in May. I would like to make her a small hanging quilt to commemorate
her wonderful life. Let me tell you a little about her. She took care of her husband with compassion and love until he passed away 4 years ago. She now lives alone and does water aerobics everyday, sews, crochets, lives within walking distance of grocery and shopping which she walks to with her walker. Her charitable sewing consists of making doll clothes for abused children, and crocheting small newborn infants caps for the local hospital. She speaks 5 languages. She is an unassuming, gentle, sweet lady whom eveyone loves. I can't say enough about her. I'm hoping you can give me some ideas for a quilt. The swimming group she belongs to call themselves "the mermaids". We love to take her out to lunch because she is so interesting and great to be with. I don't have much time so I hope it will be an easy type quilt that I can make. Thank you all in advance for your ideas. I know you all can help me.

maybe a snowball block quilt. you could even embroider or write sayings or things in each block of things that have meaning to her over the last 100 years. I'm sure she will love it.

What a MILESTONE, 100 years young. Go to the top of the page to SEARCH and put in Snowball quilt and several will come up. Warm wishes or Yellow Brick Road are also easy patterns to do at the last minute.

My dear grandmother would have been 100 last May, but passed away peacefully in her sleep(she'd been in excellent health) three weeks before the BIG day. We'd had a HUGE birthday celebration planned.

my grandma will be 90 this year and she is working on staying around till then. I would do something in batiks that are tropical colors. maybe some stars or if you are good at circles and applique then applique a mermaid on it. there is a pattern where you have circles. this could be done in blue shades like you are under water and the mermaid is swimming and there are those long grasses under water that she is swimming threw. it might take a bit of work and a couple of long hours and maybe an all day sewathon (what a bummer hehe) but you could do it.

What about a postage stamp quilt with 100 different fabrics? I'm sure you could get people to send you some scraps if you need the variety -- I would!

I like the postage stamp idea, what about a strip of them, that would make it faster and easier.

I agree with that, or add a special verse I think that would be a good idea

Sorry you didn't get to celebrate your grandmothers 90th, but what a nice way to go, in your sleep. God bless.
