I know you wonderful ladies can help with ideas on what to do with big 16 patch squares I have made. Using up my stash of 2 1/2" squares. Settings? sashings? Thanks in advance.

Am I understanding your blocks are 16 patch that consist of 2 1/2 inch squares? (4 x 4). You are not looking for a 16 patch block because you've already made them. Only needing to figure out sashings or how to assemble these blocks?

If so, then you could use just about any width sashing placing a cornerstone at the intersections. Is there any sort of pattern to the blocks themself?

The 16 patch blocks are already 8" (finished) and scrappy. That's a lot of work for something that's going to look pretty much the same as when you started.

I think a simple setting would be best. Someone asked about this a while back and I did a quickie in EQ because she wanted to resize a pattern she had.

You can use solid alternating squares, or you can make QST's for a bit more blended option - although unless there is a big contrast you could lose the 16patch in the mix.

She was looking for the softness of the pale squares. And turning them on point makes it a bit more interesting ....without doing a lot more work. Which is always a plus ;-) A simple border to set it all off - the 16patches have so much going on in them a busy border - like piano keys - would just compete.

There are a lot of option you can do - if depends on involved you want to get.

You could use the blocks as center for larger log cabin blocks - as long as you really differentiate the LC strips in the two halves into light and dark.

You could just frame the blocks - again, with some contrasting fabric.

Do you have a pic of your squares? It would be easier to offer suggestions if the mix of the blocks was known.

Here's a simple rendition of the quilt the other poster wanted. This would end up being 65" square (including the 4" border). Those 8" block squares on point turn into almost 12", so it builds up rather quickly.

A lady posted an excellent one on Apr 3 search on My first time posting pictures... It combines 16 patch with a pinwheel and makes a simple but incredible looking quilt. very easy too.

I saw some interesting settings on quilters cache yesterday that I am considering using my 16 patch scrappys in. The ones I looked at are Sunny Lanes or combining Patchwork Strippy with Kite's Tail.

I wish I had a supply of 16 patch blocks that size. I would cut then diagonally into HSts and find a pattern that combined them with a solid. I have a book of big block patterns that would work perfectly.
