Hello,
This is new for me,first time to ask a question. I have a Piece of material that is abt. 36 inches by 48 inches with 2 male lions looking out from long stems of grass. It is beautiful. The material was form a robe or something of that nature of my Moms.
She is 81 years old, has macular degeneration and a partial hip replacment. I would like to make Her a quilt for Her Birthday, Oct. 08
My question is how can I make this the center of a quilt? Which would be easier blocks or could I do the log cabin around it. Please give me ideas I am seeing nothing.

How big a quilt? If for a bed, you may find more grass-like fabrics and have the lions prowling through. For a lap, you may want to think reversable, with a lion on each side. There are some fun African prints out there to coordinate.

The lions are very close to each other. It would make them off centered if I split them up. Quilt could be a full would perfer a queen. They are very large. The heads and manes take up most of the space. Around them it looks like grass,ferns and other kinds of plants. You can see no legs,feet etc. just head and manes. Billsbonbon

I'd go ahead and do an appliqued center, lions, grass, add a couple trees, maybe giraffe or zebras. Then a basic black border, and a wider tribal print /animal print border of alternating triangles.

Thank you moonpi I am trying to send a picture of them. I am adding it as an attachment. You plan sounds great. If I can get it to match them. Hope I do this right.

Moonpi has a great plan and it sounds like it will work out great. However, if you don't want to do a quilt that big...(your lions seem huge in the pic), you might consider cutting them apart... and do a lap quilt (or 2). I made my grandmother a lap quilt so she could cover up in her wheel chair...the place where she lives keeps it cool for people her age when they can't get up and move around. Sorry...got sidetracked :oops:

Anyway...make the lion the center and work with adding a couple of borders around the edges of varying widths. Quilt the darkest lines on the lion's face and it will turn out beautiful!

Not sure how huge those lions actually are, but it might be a good idea to cut them apart & piece them into some blocks or just even other larger pieces of coordinating fabrics? Just my thoughts, they look a little intimidating both of them coming straight at you like that, I think I'd try & soften them maybe with a little applique on the edges or something?

Moonpi's idea seems like it might be the one. the lions are (just their faces and manes) are abt.22 1/2 by abt.30 inches. I looked real close and actually they can be seperated. It will be a couple months before I start on it, have to shop for material to match. Thanks again moonpi

Thank you Thimblebug for the web site I am go to look right now. They are rather large and some may think they are intimidating,but my mom thinks they are fantasic. She says they will protect her old body while she sleeps.LOL. Billsbonbon

The borders and moonpi's idea seems to be what I am looking for.
Thank you I am now seeing some things in my head, the planing for a quilt is a big fun thing for me. But every time I looked at those lions, all I could see were their eyes. LOL Billsbonbon
