200yd quilting thread
I picked up a 2000yd spool of King Tut 40wt thread to use for machine quilting. I do not have a thread adapter. Can someone tell me the best way to fill an empty 500yd spool from the larger spool?
Thanks for all the suggestions!

i don't think there is any way to fill up a 500 yd spool from a 2000 yd cone. there are adapters that will hold the cone so that you can just thread your machine from the cone and use it that way. there are the kind of adapters made specifically for the cone, or you can rig up something. one person said that they used packaging from a set of dvr disks. apparently when the packaging comes apart, the cone sits on a spindle.

I saw something that showed how a lady set up her quilt table. She had a thread cone in a large coffee cup. She took a brass piece from a toilet flush package--it has something like an eyelet on the end. This she taped to her sewing machine. So the thread went from the cup to the eyelet to the thread guides in her machine. The only misgiving I have for the CD spindle is that it isn't very heavy.

I set the cone of thread on the table behind the machine, run the thread through a cup hook attached to the shelf above my machine and back down to the machine and thread through a small hole in the horizontal spool washer then thread as usual. Before I started using the overhead feed the thread didn't feed evenly and messed with my tension.

Buy a quality thread holder. It will pay for itself because the cones of threads are cheaper then the small spools. I have had many thread holders but this is my favorite because it holds all sizes of cones and spools. It can be used horizontal too. http://www.superiorthreads.com/shop/...thread-holder/
