Default 3 1/2" Block Challenge

Our Quilt Guild has given us a 3 1/2" block challenge taken from 2006 Contest, sponsored by Fons and Porters.
I was just wondering if anyone has made little 3 1/2" blocks? If so would you be willing to give me some ideas for blocks for this challenge. I have made one, and am really getting excited about these cute little blocks. If I can figure this out, I'll post a picture of my block.

Dear Jane blocks are 4.5" -- probably wouldn't be too difficult to scale them down a bit and make them 3.5. Are you familiar with that quilt? Google "Jane Stickle" quilt or Dear Jane quilt. Great instructions are at thatquilt.blogspot.com.

I have done friendship star, but any 9 patch form pattern will do. My guild makes ribbon toppers that size for our quilt show. We have done western hats (PP from a book), mini landscapes, western boots, flowers, etc. a friend lent me her ark book and I made a hummingbird that size. A great many simple PP patterns can be done at that scale. I have also made 8 point "compass" stars as tree ornaments on that scale.

Thank you QM, you have given me a lot of good ideas. I never thought that any 9 patch pattern could be easily scaled down. I'll look at all the 9 inch blocks, should get some good ideas. Applique would be fun too.

Most any block can be rescaled to that size ... depends whether you want to work with little pieces!

Consider your favourite blocks ... and scale them down!

Go to Quilters Cache and search by size ... she has a bunch of 7" blocks so it would be easy to scale those in half.

Or ... if 3.5" is your unfinished size, then use her 6" blocks (or 12" and quarter them)

Lots of options!!

You could also look at paper-piecing sites, like caroldoak.com. Lots of little blocks~~
