I recently purchased a Tracy's Cutting Table. I want to purchase a cutting mat for the top. I have been online checking out 40" x 72" cutting mats and am confused about the best one to buy.

Can anyone enlighten me on where to purchase a good 40" x 72" cutting mat at a good price?

f you are not concerned about the lines on the mat, then the best place is at a quilt show where Quilter's Rule is vending. they often have seconds at a very good price.

I bought a wonderful Horn cutting table 2-3 years ago and ordered a cutting mat made to fit the table exactly. Big mistake. I went back to my green Olfas and just put 2 side by side. Doesn't cover up the table entirely but works. The Horn one is a white one and destroys the blades. About a year after I bought it I mentioned to the dealer that I was really unhappy with it and how I had gone back to the Olfas. She agreed and said she doesn't like them in her shop at their cutting table. In the meantime I order the large 72" Olfa from Joanns, but took it back. At the time they were having free return shipping which is rare. It was in 2 pieces and clipped together. That was not a good thing either because where they clipped together was not smooth. So I am using the green ones on top of the white one. One good thing it is good for is for measuring long pieces of fabric and that's about it.

I never want one that would cover the entire table. If you saw my cutting table you would know why. The cutting mat is in the middle but I have a basket for scraps and stuff piled on the outside edges......

Be careful and read the label. I bought the cutting table and mat last year w/coupon from Joann's. It took me alot of frustrating cutting w/even new blades in my rotary to realize that even though I had only used the cutting mat a few times it was affecting the cutting; it would hit and miss cut. I got out my big blue self sealing mat and no problem. It's great to protect the table but it doesn't need protecting since I don't cut on the table itself; always use a mat. That was a waste of money; glad it was 1/2 price.
