Question 5 minute block , what size blocks to cut out? Help!

I know someone on the board had a list of proper size to make different size 5 minute block. I want an 8 inch finish block, can anyone help me? Thank you. Janice

did you want a 5-min block that looks like a flying geese or did you want a 10-minute block that finishes square at 8"?

McNeil made to kinds the 10 & 5. The 5 minute looks like the flying geese but longer at the top of the geese. Don't know if I explained that very good.

I have the Five Minute Quilt Block book. Each pattern has a different size of fabric to cut. The basic block is

Large 10" block uses 5 1/4" x 10" fabric pieces.

Small block uses 2 7/8" x 5 1/4" makes 5 1/4" block.

The book is worth getting. I love everyone of the patterns.

There seems to be a ratio to fabric size to finished block size as the fabrics are all weird measurements.
I would use 8 1/2" fabrics for the sky and try different size of geese fabric until it worked out.

OK, i revisited the Utube video and see exactly what you mean. if you want the finished size to be 8", then 1/2 of the finished size is 4". you then add the seam allowances to that. so the rectangles would be 4.5 x 8.5". the video looks like all three rectangles are the same size. i hope this helps
