Ok. I got my fabric yesterday and its all wrinkly. For you quilters that don't wash there fabric before cutting into it what do you do? I'm afraid that if i iron it i'm going to set in some dirty. I usually wash my fabric first but I'm so impatient!
thanks!

If you don't want to prewash it, why not try putting it in the dryer with a damp towel? I do this with my husband's shirts when I forget to take them out of the dryer and I'm too lazy to iron them. Might work if your fabric isn't toooo wrinkled.

If you're afraid of ironing because it may set in some dirt - I would definitely wash it. But then I'm one who pre-washes everything.

if I don't prewash I usually spray with water and press it. You say you don't want to iron in more dirt, but when you pierce the pieces together you iron it (don't you?). Iron it on the wrong side.......If you are afraid of doing that because of dirt, by all means prewash it.

The damp towel in the dryer unusually works for me. If I am really worried about dirt I resign myself to washing all the fabric in the quilt. It's really what works for you.

How about if you sprayed with starch, wrap up and put in a plastic bag for a couple of hours, then ironed it.

I will go ahead a wash like I normally do. I live in an apartment and the washer and dryer are in another building. I guess I was just being lazy. haha. And anxious to cut into it! So off to the laundry I go......
Thanks

Wash enough of it to get started on a project. But make sure you keep track of what is washed and unwashed. Once you get started on a project, you can wash the rest of it at your leisure.

Here's a tip (just in case you haven't already heard this one), since you're living in an apartment and don't have in-house laundry facilities. Wash your fabrics, but don't dry them. Fold them, if necessary, and then roll them up--yes, while they're still wet. Put your rolls in a plastic baggie and put them in the freezer. I can see from your posts that you are very organized, so this next tip is going to seem toooooo obvious. OK.....here goes....put same color fabrics in one baggie and start a new baggie for each color (hope I didn't offend you too much with that one) :) Take them out of the freezer at least 1 hour before you want to iron them so they can defreeze. You will need to unroll them slowly--like in 5-10 minute increments as they defreeze. They will still seem to be soaking wet as you iron them. But that will help with any shrinkage problem you might be concerned with that didn't get taken care of in the dryer.
