I work in a quilt shop. Our Moda Sales Rep. came in this past week. Moda Batiks are going up to $12.00 a yd. but none of the other Moda lines. The post office informed us, that those priority envelopes that say if it fits it ships! Well no more, we were told no thicker than 3/4 of an inch. Guess they better change their commercial huh!

My post office told me that it could not distort the envelope. You must use the peel and stick on the envelope and then you could reinforce it with additional tape. Nothing about 3/4 of an inch.

This is really disappointing.
At the very least I wish they would just come out and say what exactly the new rule is. I have had my post office accept a package only to have the post office on the other end charge the receiver additional postage.

I sent 3 sets of swap blocks plus the return cardboard envelope this morning in the regular cardboard envelope. Lady at PO put the postage on the return envelope for me and taped it up. No mention of any possible problems with sending it. This was probably about 1-1/2 or 2" thick.

Wonder why the US Postal Service is in trouble. They don't know what is going on.

I don't know if the rates have raised as of yet.I just know what they said to the owner of our shop. This will really hurt the people we ship to over seas.

I retired from the Po 1.5 years ago and the 3/4" thick limit applied to first class and regular priority large envelopes, no more than 12"X15" not the Flat Rate priority envelopes provided by the PO. When a large envelope it is thicker than 3/4", it is then concidered a parcel and parcel rates are then applied. This is my first attempt at providing a link. I hope it helps. NOTE: if the prices went up for FLAT Rate priority, it is not reflected on the site yet. PO.http://www.usps.com/prices/first-class-mail-prices.htm

I mailed a medium flat rate box the other day - price increased from $10.70 to $10.95. But I had it bulging!
