Default ? about washing a table runner

I generally always wash a quilt before I give it away because I love the crinkly look after a quilt is washed plus if the recipient isn't familiar with quilts I don't want them to be alarmed after they wash it & it looks so different from a new, unwashed quilt. I'm finishing up a table runner for a Christmas gift & am debating whether to was it or not when I'm done with it. For those of you who normally wash quilts before gifting, what would you do with a table runner? Thanks for opinions.

I don't wash table runners but I include a colour catcher and care instructions with any quilted project gifted.

I use table runners and place mats all the time... and spray then with Scotch Guard when they are completed. It helps to keep the stains to a minimum, pretty non-existent actually -- we're an adult household! And wash as needed. Yes, the quilting does show up more, and that polished store-brought look is gone. Replaced by a homely softened appearance.
