Adding batting fleece to a quilt top?

Adding batting fleece to a quilt top?
I'm making a quilt from a pre-printed panel for a sweet girl. I was wondering if any of you have used batting fleece on the top of the quilt. In this case, it would be Santa's beard and the trim on his coat, etc. i thought maybe I could use it if I machine quilted in a pretty tight free motion pattern. Would it hold up in the washer and dryer? Any ideas on this?
I am recently back on this board, and I had forgotten how much I had loved it. I'm staying this time.

I am not sure what you mean by "batting fleece" .... if it is regular fleece, like is used in clothing, then yes, you could use it. If it is a regular batting, no, I wouldn't use it and would look for something that would last and look better.
I like your idea to insert for Santa's beard and coat trim...
...........how about a fake fur or minkey?
Little girls and adults too would love the realistic feel of that ... far nicer than any fleece could ever give!

I agree that fleece could be used ... but a little minky-type fabric would be even better! (With a coupon, JoAnn Fabric's version wouldn't be too expensive. There are good coupons for their Veteran's Day Sale.)

Thanks to all of you for your helpful replies. I do have the Joann's coupons and it's only 10 minutes from my house. I have heard the minky is hard to quilt with, but maybe a small quantity as I need would work fine. i'll also look at the blanket fleece. I'm sure that would work too. Good suggestions. Thank you.
