Gee, thanks bunches ladies! I took a beginning quilting class umpteen yrs ago & we were taught to cut away the back , layer by layer close to the stitching line. I am doing needle turn & am not using fusible web. I am glad to hear I can keep on as I was & causing no headaches for the quilter.
I do needle turn applique and I very seldom cut the material from under the appliqued pieced. I prefer not to. Some teachers suggest it as it will lay flatter but I personally thing it weakens the material. Just MHO.
