Advice on choosing pattern to highlight Lake Superior
#11
May I ask where you got the fabric? It's a beautiful representation of Michigan and I would like to make a Pure Michigan type quilt. And it would make a wonderful addition for my son's "Flat Curtis" quilt.
Thank you for the information.

If you were to cut out the motifs, using the shape of the motif cut them as big as possible (see marked up image below) and use them for the centers of crazy patch blocks. With crazy patch block you will be able to add many colors around them.

Actually early explorers considered Superior a great Inland Sea. The Native American name for the lake "Gichigami" roughly translates to "be a great sea" and while technically a lake, Lake Superior behaves very much like a great inland sea and mariners who traverse Superior treat it with that respect or they die. The storms that rage on Lake Superior rival those in open ocean and are the stuff of songs (Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald) and legend. I think storm at sea would be a fine border for this great piece of fabric.
