Sometime ago I made my one and only QAYG quilt. It is the ten min. block (if that helps). The front is great but the back is pretty awful, can this quilt be saved. Can I put another backing (one piece) over the whole thing, if so how. Any ideas appreciated.

I would also want to see a picture of why you think it's so bad. In answer to your question, however, you could put another back on it. You could tie it or SITD around the blocks to secure it.

Sorry no pictures, I'm computer challanged.LOL. It's just so wonky, good enough for me, but I'd like to gift it if I could put another backing on it.

Is the problem with the back the fact that there are lumpy joins between the blocks? You could always applique strips of fabric (maybe even pieced strips) over the joins.

I agree that a photo would be helpful so we could see what the issue is. Yes, you could always just SITD around the edges, but then the back wouldn't be quilted & could bunch up, tear or wrinkle when laundered. Leah Day did a YouTube video about Trapplique where she covered over sections of one of her quilts that she didn't like. Maybe that would be helpful to you.

I mad a 10 minute block quilt for my daughter and her husband as a Christmas gift several years ago. I treated it like any quilt top - I put batting and a backing behind it and then quilted it with a meander pattern.

If you have not put the binding on all the better but yes you can put another backing on it. Make the new backing at least 4" wider and longer than the quilt. Be sure to pin baste very well and then stitch in the ditch around the blocks. Then bind as usual.

I made a QAYG row by row. My main machine was in the shop and I was having trouble with the tension on my old machine. I had three rows together and was ashamed of the backs . I put the rest together using only the front sashing piece. Then i used a new backing and stitched on the front along both sides of the sashing. Looks great. I like the qayg method on Ann Peterson's craftsy site on how to machine quilt big machines on a domestic sewing machine.
