Here is my trick. I am totally a cheater!! I machine stitch on both sides and use fabric for the back that will blend with the thread. I have learned the hard way that I can not stitch straight! I also bought the binding tool - many say that it is the same as doing the math - but for some reason it helps me a ton!

Good luck - they say it comes with practice! :)

I hate making the binding! Takes forever, all that ironing, making it one long strip. Sheesh.

But once it is attached, its my favorite part the grand finale. I love folding it over and stiching it closed. its the final step. onces its done I have my beauty, my prize! Besides it sews on in no time at all. Takes me about an hour to completely bind it and for me that is AWESOME!

I'm not keen on the handstitching, so I machine stitch mine now :)

I usually put it off, but when I just sit down and do it, it's never that bad!
What part of it do you most dislike?

I hate it too! I even machine stitch my bindings... and still have to self -bribe to do it. For me its because there is no creative discovery left ... its just ... a chore.
My most effective bribes are ... a trip to the LQS ...... chocolate... getting to start a new quilt.... a new gadget.... etc.

Its definitely not my favorite part, but I do like the fact that I can do it while watching tv, or riding in the car, or sometimes take it to work---times when I don't feel like dragging out the sewing machine or the table for cutting/piecing etc. Sometimes you just gotta make yourself do it! LOL! or you could send it out...there are people who do binding services! :) Good luck!!

Binding is one of my favourite parts of quilting. I love how it frames the quilt and completes it. Try checking out binding tutes and here is a link to a great way of stitching down the back:

Before you know it you'll be binding up a storm....Hang in there!

I like hand stitching the binding. It is something to do while watching TV.

I LOVE binding! I love it even more since I bought a walking foot for my sewing machine. I really enjoy hand stitching the back as well. Plus it's exciting knowing how close I am to another finished quilt.
