I made a miniature Storm at Sea from my Dad's ties. First I washed them to make see how they turned out. If they survived that, then I picked them apart & ironed flat & used like a regular fabric.... some were silk, some poly.

I haven't made a necktie quilt. (I think
there have been references to them in
the past.)

I just wanted to tell you that I love your Scottie
in your avatar. He is a cutie!

years age i made a necktie log cabin. i wish i was taking pictures back then to show you. i made it with a fabric foundation. it worked out really well. when i prewashed the silk (only) all the red ran. i ended up with red marks on everything. i had to cut around it all. i made is as a wall quilt as a gift with a tag that gave cleaning instructions to dry clean only. a wall quilt shouldn't need cleaning too often. i starched the heck out of it because the silk was SO slippery to cut. i just concentrated on light/dark arrangements because you never get enough of any one color to make a planned quilt.

i quilted right across the logs, diagonally, not in the ditch. it's funny that you're bringing this up, because i have been saving them again for the past two years. this time my kids are helping collect.

Joan:

We have a scottie dog and she looks just like that and what a sweetie pie she is.

Thanks for the compliment.
