I think you and the kids may be pleasantly surprised to find that you enjoy your visit to Cabella's, too. The one near us is huge and has a walk through aquarium exhibit, an african safari exhibit complete with all kinds of stuffed animals, tons of stuffed birds, deer, bears, etc. on display everywhere. There's also a cafe where you can dine on things you probably have never eated before, like sandwiches of elkmeat, ostrich, etc. It's a bit pricier than a sandwich elsewhere, but fun to try as a special treat. I think you'll all enjoy all the places you visit on this trip. Have fun!

If you are a quilter and you go to Lancaster, you think you have died and went to heaven.

Thank you all for your replies. We are leaving early tomorrow morning and if the traffic Gods of Manhattan do not curse us we are hoping to be in Intercourse, PA by 9:00. Cabella's is planned for afternoon. I sense that many of you were surprised that kids and I get bored in that store. Well, what you do not understand is that my husband can easily spend 6 hours in that store before I drag him out kicking and screaming. Even if it was a quilting store I think I would go nuts after 6 hours chasing around two little kids. We will make the best of it. The theme of this weekend is quilts and buffalo burgers (at Cabella's restaurant).

The Old Country Store is an absolute must in my mind! I have never been there but feel like I have because I have ordered so much fabric from them. At least once a week I remind my husband that we need to go north that way so I can stop there :-)

however, Cabella's is near Kutztown- another strong amish/menonite & farming community - you may want to do a google search for quilt stores in near Kutztown (Cabella's is actually in Hamburg- another google search.). just read about someone purchasing fabric at "Wooden Bridge Dry Goods in Kutztown- in the link I tried to post below.

this is taken from a saved thread from this website from spring 2011- you may want to google this thread:" going on a lancaster PA Shop Hop Saturday". I have it saved as:
[URL="http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-115777-1.html"]

I would google these quilt shops- for they may not be around or too far from your itinerary

*Dutchland quilt patch on rt 30 [not too far away from Intercourse]-website: www.dutchlandquilts.com
*old country quilt store on rte 340- up the street from Zooks
* Quilt and Fabric shack

Wooden Bridge Drygoods Rocks. The only place I go to buy fabric. I love that it is in the middle of a farm, and yes, you do cross a wooden bridge to get to it! The owners and employees are teriffic. And then stop in town At the Kutztown tavern for lunch! A great micro brewery!
