Another binding question
When sewing the binding on the back of a finished quilt do you use a double strand of thread or single strand?
I have been using a double strand but was wondering if a single one would look neater.
My hand sewing needs alot of improvement!

single thread. and a ladder stitch- check out the tutorials, or u-tube videos there are lots of them showing exactly how to do nice small-invisible stitches for your bindings. i often use silk thread because i can use a 100 wt thread (which is very fine/thin but strong) or a 60 wt thread---the higher the wt number the thinner/finer the thread--as in 12 wt is like string--100wt is very fine- often we piece with 40-60wt threads.

I mostly machine stitch both sides. If I do hand stitch binding I prefer to use hand quilting thread. If I use 100 wt. silk I use a double strand. I also use the ladder stitch. The thread does not get caught on fingernails and the fold of the binding lays flatter into the quilt making it more durable over time.
