Has anyone ever tried to attach a quilt top to a beach towel ? I saw this cute pattern and I thought that it would be a great idea to make some for my Northern visitors when I get time. The pattern is called "Beach Buddy". I did say when I get time............

I was looking at that last week. It's a neat idea! However, I think I would use less expensive fabrics because the hot Florida sun would probably fade them and it would probably depress me to see it faded if I spent $9+ a yard for it.

I made three of these last year for Christmas, sent to HI for my DIL and 2 DGD. They love them. I now have the towel to make one for my son, he is due home from Iraq by the end of July.

I spray basted them to the back of the towel and loaded on my frame as one piece. slick

I used 3 different patterns, just sized them to fit the 6 ft towels I found on sale.

Yes.I agree with you with the cost of fabric. It would be cute to use in a screened in pool area.I would use scraps and not buy anything expensive to make it with.

How heavily does it need to be quilted to prevent it from puckering when it shrinks? Did you preshrink the towel and fabric first? I generally prewash everything, just curious how it handles after a few washes.

I do/did pre wash both towel and fabrics. I did a free motion pattern, don't remember what, the one that was not as close actually came out the best. Because of both the spray starch on the fabric and the spray adhesive, I prewashed the finished towels.

Can I tell you the comment from my 9 yr old GD. She did not understand the towel and qullt combo, I heard her Mom in the background, the quilt part it to lay on , and the towel is to dry your butt. LOL
