Any Guild Challenge ideas?
I know y'all are the best place for this question. Our Guild wants to find some fun challenges for the 2014 year. Did you participate in a good challenge? Please let me know, thank you ahead of time, I'd appreciate any ideas.

I had purchased a bolt of *'ugly' fabric so anyone that want some was challenged to take a yard and bring it back next month with a wall quilt........amazing all the different creative designs that were shown. (***ugly as in it looked like paint splatters). Another group took a different ugly fabric and realized when it's cut down into small squares it wasn't as ugly.......LOL...

We had a fabric challenge, similar to the Hoffman fabric challenge, and it was a TON of fun. The challenge was to see who could find the best use for this fabric, and it had to be recognizable, meaning we weren't allowed to chop it into tiny pieces.

Everyone who participated put $5 into a kitty, and we split the kitty up into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. Finished quilts were kept under wraps so voting would be unbiased. There were a few members who decided not to participate in the challenge, so they set up the quilt viewing area and counted the ballots after we all voted. It was amazing how many different quilts there were! We all agreed the challenge was a success and great fun, and we're definitely planning on doing another one.

Our guild also does a fabric challenge. We each receive the same charm pack. We then have to make a wallhanging with the charm pack and a couple of other fabrics of our own. We have certain sizes that it can not go over but your guild could come up with their own guidelines.
The ugly fabric challenges are fun also. You may want to think of a few small challenges for occasions through out the year, like Valentines Day, Easter, ST. Patties Day, etc. You could even do pincushion challenges with a theme. Just have fun with it.

This year we did a crayon challenge. Buy a box of crayons, put them in a paper sack, and have each person draw out two. They have to make a project with predominantly those 2 colors (we allowed them to add small amounts of other colors). It's a fun way to work with colors that you might not normally choose.

My guild has done a Paint Chip Challenge where you match the initials of your name to the names of paint colors on paint chips and then you have to make a quilt using those exact colors - paint chips are pinned to the quilt for judging. We also had a challenge where we had to quilt a song - we could pick any song and the quilt had to be between 24" and 45" on each side and have 3 different kinds of embellishment.

We had a star challenge to create a wall hanging with at least 13 stars 12", 6" and 3". We had a corner in our recent quilt show for some of them. This one was mine (it was not done in time for the show but will now go to it's new owner soon!!)
