I have been using the Coats and Clarks machine quilt cotton thread from Joann fabrics for many years. Once in a while I get a knot or two, but it has worked pretty good for me. Is there a difference between that and the Essential thread from Connecting Threads? There is quite a difference in price. Which kind do you use?

I have not use the Coast and Clark machine quilting cotton thread, have used Essential. Essential is a good thread, but is pretty linty.

The Essential thread has less lint and I haven't encountered any knots in it.

I have a several thread sets from Connecting Threads, and I have no problem with them at all.

I use Essential from Connecting Threads. I usually get it when it is on sale and love it. My Janome loves it, too. It is a little linty, but most cotton threads are linty. Pretty easy fix--just clean your machine a little more often.

Divide the price of the spool by the yardage to get the true cost of the thread. C&C probably costs you more than you think it does. Personally I use either Aurifil or Prescencia for piecing. I also use Mettler, King Tut, Wonderfil and Superior for quilting.

the ''best thread'' to use is the one that works for you- has the colors, weights, fibers you prefer- your machine likes it and it is priced in your price range. there is no...which is best...I've been using threads from connecting threads for a few years now and have been very happy- I also purchase thread from Superior Thread, Atlanta Thread company, YLI and my local quilt shop...once in a blue moon I may even drop into joannes and pick up a spool/cone of thread when I can not locate a color else where and need it 'right not' can't wait to order it. it's nice to try new products from different sources- and compare prices & qualities- machines tend to have personalities of their own too- and some threads work well in one & not at all in a different one-

I'm anxious to try the Connecting Threads - the price is great, quantity good, and the recommendations all positive. I have only finished 1 quilt and I used 16 spools of Mettler at almost $3 a spool. Also since I was a beginner started with 4 spools and shopped constantly for more.

Prescencia 50 wt. thread is, IMHO, the way to go. It is very lightweight thread, so you can get a great scant 1/4" seam. My touchy Bernina loves Prescencia thread. I buy it by the cone. No lint, no knots, just pleasure. Might as well use the best thread you can get. If not Prescencia, buy 50 wt. thread of another brand. I wouldn't go with CT or CC.

I use it all. If I need a specific color to outline stitch something with I go for Coats because it's cheaper and I do not need that much of it. I piece all my tops with connecting threads brand though. It's cheap, you get a lot of yards for your money and my machine doesn't mind it. When I stipple and on my Juki 98 that's when the lint issues happen, but I just clean the machine out after a quilt or two and continue on. I have never encounter any knots in the thread though.
