Default Any reviews/comments about Brother XR 1300 or HC1850?

Looking for a back-up/ travel machine for my Viking Platinum Plus. Costco has the Brother XR1300 for $169. I'm considering having my husband pick one up if they go on clearance. But I can find no online reviews of the XR1300. Based on info on the Brother website it seems very similar to the Brother HC1850 just does not include the lettering font. I do any lettering with the embroidery unit on my Viking so that doesn't matter to me. Can anyone give either of these machines a recommendation? Or warn me to stay far away? Here's links to the specs http://www.brother-usa.com/Homesewin...oductID=xr1300 & http://www.brother-usa.com/homesewin...oductID=hc1850 . Thanks!

I don't have either of those machines, but I do have two Brother machines and love them both. One is a $99 Walmart cheapie that I've had several years. It has pieced and quilted several quilts, made countless costumes and prom dresses and patched more pairs of jeans than I can count.

Many manufacturers make special models and package deals for Costco that you can't buy anywhere else. You'll get many varied opinions, but I'm of the mind that for that price I'd buy a vintage 301 or go to my nearest dealer to buy a machine with service and support.

I have the Brother SQ 9000 with all the quilting feet and walking foot that I got for about that same price from Wal Mart and I love it.

I have a Brother machine and never had a problem with it. I bought it from a dealer however not a big box store

Costco has an excellent return policy so I would get one and try it out. You can always take it back if it doesn't meet your needs.
