DD told me tonight that she would like a "contemporary" design quilt. Big blocks of colors. Does anyone have any suggestions where I could find anything like this? I could design one, but would rather be lazy right now.

Google it. I sure you can come up with a free pattern someplace.

My niece did the same thing when I asked her for ideas for her quilt over the Christmas time. When I asked her if she preferred traditional vs modern, she asked "what's traditional?"
I explained it that traditional has a set pattern, and you try to get your seams straight and your points matched etc.
Modern allows for more wonky things, unusual color combos and allows for some creativity in the process (read: mistakes are just taken in stride:)
She chose modern, and in purple and blue please.
So be it.

Look at some of the rug patterns in Lowes if you have one.

I've made 2 PaintBox quilts in different color schemes, great patterns. Check her "favorite links", too, there are some very nice sites for free (and purchase) patterns for quilts and small items with tutorials.
