I would try to stick with as many of the larger pieces that you have. Sometimes machine can skip stitches when there are so many seams creating bulk.

I always piece my quilt back. It uses up quite a bit of my stash so I can buy more fabric:-) I often look at some of the modern quilts and sort of make my backs like them. I just use they for ideas. It usually depends on how much of each fabric I have.

Very nice back. It's called creativety. Great job.

Thanks very much, everyone. My back is together and I feel good about using up some stash. As meanmom said, now I can buy more fabric!

free form can be intimidating......If you need a pattern, you could try a turning 20. That pattern uses big chunks like fat quarters, turned and arranged in a layout.....just in case you need some direction. But the ideas suggested above are great and you cant go wrong with any of them.

I either use backing fabric or large pieces of yardage. By the time I piece a quilt I really don't want to spend time piecing a back.

Thank you fayeberry. I was pretty impressed with myself too! I like looking on this board always but also when I encounter difficulty in a project. Always can get ideas.

I have made very large D4P & D9P for backs. Uses up big bits of fabric which are not enough for a back by themselves.
