My mom used hydrogen peroxide to remove scorch marks from ironing. It worked like a charm. If I remember right she would use a white cotton handkerchief for the peroxide. This was back in the dark ages when nearly everything had to be ironed, back when I was a kid And at that time nearly everyone had the medical strength peroxide on hand to use on cuts. There is a type of hydrogen peroxide that is or was used to dye hair blond which is a much stronger strength than the medical use type and I wonder if that is the product that people used that destroyed their fabric. As a nurse, I also used the milder type on my uniforms without any problems.

I thought hydrogen peroxide could damage fabric? I seem to recall reading a story on Leah Day's blog about her first wholecloth quilt, and she put hydrogen peroxide on it for some reason and it ended up "burning" it....?
Yeah, here it is: http://www.leahday.com/quilttheduchess/ Look for the "Update: Spring 2012" entry. It's about 2/3rds down the page. This story scared me off of hydrogen peroxide on fabric! It's tragic looking at those photos....so much amazing work.
