Anyone been to both the International Quilt Festival in Houston AND the Paducha Quilt Show in KY?

Which show do you prefer? I am considering going to the show in KY this year but I want to make sure it's worth it. I am new to quilting and live in Houston so I've been to the show here for the past two years, but I am unfamiliar with other shows.

They are both fabulous. And if you can swing it, go to both.
However, Houston, without question, if much easier in terms of
access. More flight options - even if you have to go into Midway. Also, so much more in term of hotel accomodations - even if you're booking the night before. Houston also has a much larger selection and varied selection of restaurants (if that's important to you).
Just because the show is town doesn't mean the ENTIRE town is sold out - as it does in Paducah.
But as far as the shows themselves in regards to the quilts and vendors - pretty much the same caliber.
And if you're thinking of going this year - as in next month - good luck finding a hotel room in Paducah .
Or are you local - and close enough to drive to it daily? Then you just have to worry about parking.
(strange, for a second I thought it read you were in KY.)

I've been going to the one in Houston since it started. Carrie and I were in Rainbow girls together 50 yrs ago and I loved her Mom (Jewel). A beautiful woman and wonderful quilter. Went to Paducah about 5 years ago and it was just as great! Quilts, fabric and terrific people what could be better!

Thanks! I was able to find a hotel in Paducha. It would have been expensive per night but I had rewards points from when I used to travel with work. I told my husband and mom about it and of course they think I am crazy!

Then have a fabulous time!
Make sure you hit all the different locations - I'm sure all the info is on the website. This is the first year in the new venue so everybody will be a bit "lost," even the veteran attendees.
Most important thing - wear really, really comfortable shoes. ;) ;)

I have been able to find motels in Paducah by purposefully calling those farthest away and not on the "approved" by AQS list. Paducah isn't that big so driving 20 minutes across town is a lot better than driving an hour from further out--Metropolis, IL; Charleston, Missouri, Cumberland, KY, etc. The past few times, I have just driven down for the day so didn't need a motel but we didn't see everything either and were bone tired from what we did manage to get to.
I'm a little disappointed to hear that the IQS show in Houston is much the same as AQS show in Paducah but at least hubby can get over his fear that I'll be dragging him to Houston soon--LOL. Just kidding. Houston is actually on our possible places to retire list so is more attractive to him than Paducah.

I like Paducah and since I live within a 3 hour drive, I consider myself lucky.

I can drive to Paducah and the town is the size that driving in it, you won't be stuck in traffic or have to find a parking garage. I like the fact that in Paducah you aren't stuck to one big place but lots of places to go for quilting interests. The museum, the many vendors buildings, the special exhibit building, quilt book building, the night time quilting programs, quilt designer studios, are all in walking distance of the show. Hancocks, Eleanor Burns, and the mall are close by with a free bus ride to take you there. I drive place to place it's so easy to get around by car.

Houston is the one! I do like Paducah, but I twitch when I try to find a motel, parking place, get by the crowds. In Houston, there at least WAS a shuttle that takes you from your hotel to the show, and when you want to go back - there is the shuttle again. It is planned and organized and layed out perfectly, and is a calm day---- I DO love the vendors there too. Have fun!
