    Question Anyone have this??

Looking for any info on the Silhouette Cameo fabric cutting machine. It doesn't require any dies. It hooks up to your computer, and cuts whatever you have there. I've not seen it or do I know anyone who has one. Any info would be appreciated. I think it sells for either $299 or $399, but no dies are needed, so upkeep would be minimal.

I don't have it, but here is a link to the reviews of it on Amazon:

I usually find the most informative reviews by click on the 3's; you get both the pros and the cons.

I think it works better for paper than for cutting fabrics for quilts. Not sure, but I think you can cut only one layer of fabric at a time. This info should be buried somewhere in the Amazon reviews.

I think the fabric has to be backed with interfacing or backing paper before it will cut and it will only cut one layer. I would think the time cutting enough for one quilt pattern one at a time would be a big negative. There are several youtube videos how to cut fabric using it. That will give you more info. One review said the blades get dull fast and have to be replaced.

I have this machine. I bought it to do some other craft projects. It does require that your fabric have interfacing on it to cut. It also requires a special fabric cutting blade. I have yet to use it on fabric. I'm pleased with the way it cuts paper. It will also sketch with special sketch pins, which is very cool. I've used it to make cards, decorate pages for memory books for a bride and other paper crafts. I bought it on Amazon and got a package for about $260. You do hook it up to your computer and it comes with software you install, so you don't have to purchase any dies. The instructions for the software aren't very thorough at all. I relied heavily on tutorials on you tube and websites about paper crafting. Hope this helps.

I find this, too, on Amazon. You almost have to ignore the 5's nowadays, it seems. They can be so gushy that they aren't even helpful!

All the Amazon reviews I read refer to "paper" not ripping etc...wouldn't buy it for fabric....they aren't interchangable!

Ok for paper, not ok for fabric.

Saw one at a quilt show. Didn't buy it but it looked pretty good. Check with some sewing machine stores and see if they have any to look at.

I have a pazzle and I have cut fabric with mine, I back the fabric with freezer paper. There is a fabric mat, but I just have not gotten around to getting one. I have done two sun bonnet sue quilts with mine.
