Almost all blocks have been made for years by different ones using different layouts, colors, and combinations.. which makes quilting such a beautiful art! I have seen quilts with these simple blocks for about 75 years and they were around before then..Hour glass, flying geese, pinwheel corner stones.. We used to get a newspaper every week that had block patterns, dress, apron, children patterns in it. We would look forward to trying to make them..flour sacks were chosen at the market with the prospect of "What can I make out of this design?" Lots of fun!
New patterns came about when a cutting mistake was made and it had to be adjusted to not waste any of the precious material!

It could be a version of Ocean Waves, but I would check the quilterscache website to locate the pattern.
