Default Walking Foot

I'm fairly new to quilting and I just bought a walking foot. Here is my question: What is it and when do I use it. You would think I would ask those questions before I bought the foot, but it was on sale, sooooo....
Thanks
Sonja

It is also called the 'even feed' foot. It keeps layers moving thru the machine at the same speed....my simplistic way of description. The feed dogs work along with the walking foot to keep from having puckers, and feeds all evenly. Great for working on quilts--also for fabrics like velvet, slippery's and etc. If you're quilting, it will be unbeatable for SID and applying bindings.

I've used my walking foot for quilting when the quilting design is fairly straight, and for SITD. I always use it when applying binding. I often use it when sewing long pieces, such as borders. I also use it when zigzagging pieces of batting together.

I use my walking foot on my older Pfaff for almost everything. It helps move the fabric evenly top and bottom. It helps me sew a really nice binding on the front of the quilt by machine. The Pfaff's walking foot is built in, attached and just snaps up and down, called IDT. I like it so much better than the separate foot on my Brother.

I use my walking foot when quilting straight lines and sometimes when I am applying my binding. I just made some IPad tablet covers and there were 4 layers of cotton fabric and 2 layers of batting to sew through. I used my walking foot to help manage all those layers and nothing shifted and they went together beautifully!
