If you have used one of these, do you like it, does it work? Is it worth the $?

I use cone thread and a thread stand - save an empty cone or three and make your own 'deelybob thingy'....

Me, too! Sounds like so much more fun than what it looks like

Seems like cones are kind of big too be sitting on top of the machine. If I was going to use one, I'd get one of the metal stands.

A pretty one:

A basic one: www.superiorthreads.com/shop/product/thread-standcone-holder

I've also heard of people just setting it in a jar (big enough for it to sit down it) behind the machine.

Is totally useless. I had one years ago and was never able to use it. My son had a blast with it. Each piece of plastic is smaller than the previous one while you pull it up, and when I put a spool on it it would collapse again.

I do not need anything fancy, just handy to use. Read some where that quilt makers are using the bottom part of containers of 50 or 100 C Ds. It has a spindle to hold the cone thread and it is free. Always trying to recycle.

That is really cool. I love it when people come up with clever substitutes for quilting notions. Your son did a great job! Thanks for posting the picture.

the king tut threads come on big spools and are cost effective that way, but i can't balance them on the spindle for the lizzie. other people have the same problem with their longarms. the ways it's set up, you can't sit the thread anywhere else and have it feed correctly.
