Is anyone using the temporary spray adhesive to hold the sandwich together for machine quilting? If so, what brand(s) have you tried and recommend? Or not recommend?

I use it all the time for my machine quilts as long as they're no bigger than a baby quilt. I've tried using it on a lap topper size and I didn't think it held together well enough. Moving it around a lot started causing the backing to come loose and pucker. I had to stop often to smooth it back out before I quilted that area and finally just stuck some pins in along with the spray. For some reason baby quilt/wall hanging size doesn't do that. Maybe because it doesn't fold over as much when I'm muscling it around under the machine.

I have June Tailor Quilt Basting Spray. Not sure where I bought it. Probably Wal-mart.

Have only used it on smaller pieces. Got it Joann's using 50% off

Does that spray evaporate away or dissolve? Does it remain sticky or becme permanent when it is ironed or put in the dryer? I have never used it because I didn't know what would happen. Thanks :D

I USE SPRAY ADHESIVE ALL THE TIME AND AM MOST SATISFIED WITH IT. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE IS A STICKY FLOOR AROUND THE WORK TABLE. BUT SINCE MY SEWING ROOM LOOKS LIKE A DISASTER ALL THE TIME, IT HARDLY MATTERS

I have used the Sullivans Machine Embroidery adhesive spray on the 50" x 60" lap quilts (Quilts of Valor) and also put in some pins. It holds OK but am wondering if there is something which holds better as I do turn a lot. Also, I find the needle gets a little gummy.

I've used an expensive spray and the cheaper June Taylor which is just as good. The heavier you spray, the better it holds, BUT the harder it is to quilt (and clean up off the floor!) I spray evenly but not too heavy and use some pins if it's a big quilt especially around the edges, that's where it wants to come loose. It washes out.

I use the June Taylor Quilt Basting Spray bought at WalMart. Be sure you really shake the can 2 min or more before using - otherwise it won't stick. I do put a few pins in mine until I have sewn the center a bit to anchor the layers together. I also pin around the edges because I think that really gets a workout! I tape my backing to the carpet, then go outside to sprat both sides of the batting and when it's in place, I place the top on the batt. When it looks OK I do the little bit of pinniing. This washes out when the quilt is done and works well for me. Couldn't do without it! :P

Huh. Maybe that's my problem marsee. I'm pretty sure I don't shake it all that long. I should try it again, and this time shake it longer and just go ahead and put a few pins in for good measure. Beats the heck out of several of hours thread basing it.

I've never had it goo up my needle. Maybe because I don't spray all that heavily...which, come to think of it, might be another reason it doesn't stay "stuck" for long on a larger quilt. :P

I forgot to mention that my needle doesn't seen to get gooey. Guess if it does we could wipe with a scant drop of alchol to clean it. Unthreaded, no doubt. Right on - shaking better than basting and the few pins aren't a problem. I do attempt to section the quilt into 4 quarters by machine stitch in the ditch from side to side thru the center and them top to bottom thru the center. Keeps the quilt from shifting altho the spray seems to do a good job for me. The 1st time I used it, I didn't remember the directions read the night before and just gave it a little shake. No dice!! Didn't stick and I thought YES! another sorry product that doesn't work. Just shake, shake. :!: :!:
