I'm looking for a good substitute for freezer paper I need the appliqué paper to wash away. I machine appliqué but do not want a raw edge. I was wondering what would be the best brand to go with?

I haven't tried it yet, but this is one that is fusible like freezer paper but that (partially) washes away so that you can leave it in.

I also machine applique and I also prefer to have the edges of the applique turned under. I don't do a lot of applique but I press the raw edges of my applique under using freezer paper. My trick is to ensure that I starch the fabric when pressing so when I am ready to applique the piece into place, I first remove the freezer paper. I find the starch is able to hold the fabric in place that the fabric has been pressed.Originally Posted by ejpkam

Someone on this board said that they use wedding runner "paper" for applique they buy from Hobby Lobby. I checked there and the only runners I have seen have a pattern printed on them. I worry about the pattern showing through, but I guess it would only show through on white, or light fabrics (?). It wasn't fusible, but 36'' by 100". Would last a long time!
I think the big difference between the Sharon Schamber product and the Wash-Away product is that the latter has one side that is fusible.
I have used freezer paper for years for machine applique, a la the Harriet Hargrave method of turning under the edges. For me, it is much easier to use paste (that comes in a small tub) to turn under the edges than a glue stick. Anyway, I did try Sharon Schamber's product for this same method but found that the edge was too soft for me. Freezer paper is a little more stiff.
