    Applique on backing of quilt

Has anyone put applique on back of quilt. I am making a baby quilt and would like to put some applique on the back. Would you put it on first so the stitching doesn't show? I am putting a plain flannel on back so I would like to have it look cute. Thanks

If you put it on first, then your quilting is going to go *over* the applique. If you do it last, then it will be "on top" of the quilting (and you would have to hand applique, to avoid your stitches showing on the front of the quilt). Given that it's a baby quilt, I'd be tempted to put it on first and quilt over it - that way it won't come off in multiple washes.

I am in agreement with Kristakz or add your applique and quilt it from the back around the applique with echo stitching. This really depends on the quilt top. If the top is really busy the style of quilting shouldn't matter to much.
