I have Wonder Under and iron it on to fuse the pieces onto my quilt top. But is there a secret to the inital ironing it on the back of the pieces? I have sticky stuff all over my ironing board. Do you put a scrap cloth that you can throw away, or how do I do this "cleanly" Thanks !!

I just iron it to a piece of fabric that's bigger than the piece of Wonder Under. I cut my appliques out after I iron the WU to fabric.

I use an applique press cloth. It is made of teflon and the sticky stuff just rubs off it.

Same here - I think mine is a vinyl-like sheet.

I just bought a "Goddess Sheet" for this exact purpose. I was tired of putting on new ironing board covers and found this at "ihaveanotion.com". Works beautifully. I bought the big one.

there are several products out there to help stop this...mainly you need a teflon pressing sheet...but you also need to remember to cut the fusible smaller than your piece you are ironing it to..

You know when you have double paper backed adhesive, you can either cut out your shapes and then fuse them, I fused an entire page to a piece of fabric then used those backing pages as my pressing cloth type thing.

I purchased two (expensive) teflon sheets for fusing appliques and was very happy with them until I used the cookie sheet baking liner paper that you get in the supermarket. The adhesive does not stick to this paper where it does the teflon sheets. Put a sheet down over the area on your ironing board and use another over the material when you press the adhesive on. I have used the same two sheets for months and one has a slight scortch mark. I never use the teflon anymore. So much cheaper.

I always iron the fusable to the fabric before cutting it out. That way the fussable is all the way to the edge of the piece. I never have a sticky mess doing it this way.

i iron my fusible on first and then cut the shapes out.

i also use the cookie sheet liner paper when i need to build up a fusible design before fusing it to the background fabric.

as previously stated the cookie liner is much cheaper then the applique pressing sheets on the market.
