Good morning ladies!

I belong to a quilt guild and we are doing a block a month. This month the entire block is applique. I have only ever done a small practice applique piece (flower). Did the freezer paper method. This block has a lot of pieces. Would you do freezer paper method or should I do fusible? I have never done fusible. Which method do you prefer and does one look or feel nicer than the other?

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

I would do fusible..if you use really light weight fusible product..similar to misty fuse it wont add much bulk. Thenyou can use a satin stitch to hold it together. Show us pic!

I tend to like Eleanor Burns method of using the sew on fusible and turning the pieces. It seems to hold the edges for me better, but I have done both.

i like freezer paper method but i have also used a light weight stabilizer sew around shape then slit stabilizer then flip and press ...i don't like fused at all but its just a personal preference

If the pieces are really small I would use fusible, otherwise, I like the sew and turn method. I use the buttonhole stitch rather than a satin stitch.

I really like fusible for appliqué. I tried the sew and flip with fusible interfacing, and the interfacing stretched and the edges showed. Didn't like how it turned out.

if it's for a quickie project, i like the fusible with machine blanket stitch. if it's for something that i want to look the best, i use freezer paper, paint starch on the seam allowances, press, remove the paper, and sew the piece invisibly by hand

Without seeing the other blocks it is hard to say what would be best. Nothing beats well done needle turn appliqué in my books for beauty. I did a pillow top once with a lot of pieces, not my cup of tea. I prefer fusible appliqué with machine buttonhole stitch along the edges. What would look best with your other blocks?

I prefer the fusible and machine stitch with fancy stitches so that the whole applique becomes more than just an applique. To me, the aptly chosen fancy stitches make the applique look like embroidered cloth. It takes longer, more colors in the thread and great patience, but looks medieval and enhances everything. IMHO.
